Empowering Africa's Youth: Integrating Entrepreneurship, Future Skills, and AI/Technology in Education for a Sustainable Future

Africa stands at a pivotal moment in its quest for sustainable development. The continent's thriving entrepreneurial spirit, innovative potential, and youthful demographic offer tremendous opportunities. To fully capitalise on these strengths and tackle challenges such as economic inequalities and the rapidly changing world of work, education must take centre stage. It is through education that Africa can unlock the potential of its people, harness the power of technology, and build a foundation for lasting prosperity.

 

Building on the achievements of previous editions, the QS Africa Forum 2024 adopts the theme "Empowering Africa's Youth: Integrating Entrepreneurship, Future Skills, and AI/Technology in Education for a Sustainable Future". This theme emphasises the critical role of education in nurturing entrepreneurial thinking, imparting relevant skills, and harnessing AI and technology to drive sustainable growth. By bringing together stakeholders from across the education spectrum, including policymakers, academics, industry leaders, and innovators, the forum aims to catalyse meaningful discussions and inspire actionable strategies. The forum will focus on the following key areas:

  • Entrepreneurship: Education Africa's vibrant entrepreneurial landscape reflects the innovative spirit of its people. From small-scale ventures to high-growth startups, entrepreneurship has the power to create jobs, stimulate economic growth, and address societal challenges. However, to fully unleash this potential, education must play a pivotal role in nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset. The University of Professional Studies (UPSA) is a public institution located in Accra, Ghana. Previously known as the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS), UPSA is situated in East Legon, a serene and well-developed area in Ghana's capital city.

Founded in 1965 as a private professional business education college, UPSA holds the distinction of being the first university in Ghana to offer both academic and professional business education. It became a government institution in 1978 and currently has around 11,000 students enrolled. The university focuses on three main areas: business development and skills training, research and community service, and teaching and learning.

The university's surroundings provide numerous amenities, including restaurants and shopping centers. The campus itself features a comprehensive medical clinic, a canteen for students, a modern five-storey library complex, counseling services, and a nearby student hostel.

Accra, home to over 2.2 million residents, is a vibrant city with a rich architectural history. It was the capital of the British Gold Coast from 1877 to 1957, and today, colonial-era buildings stand alongside modern skyscrapers. East Legon is known for its excellent shopping opportunities, including boutiques, convenience stores, bookshops, and a major shopping center.

Accra is widely regarded as one of Africa's safest cities and hosts numerous public and private universities. The current chancellor of UPSA is Professor Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey.
